Bruce MacKay is an accomplished Drummer / Percussionist / Teacher whose recordings and performances encompass pop, rock, jazz, latin, and classical. He has toured and recorded with numerous artists and bands since 1984. His musical endeavors have taken him across Canada, the United States, Chile, and Argentina both has a performer and clinician.

Bruce began drumming in 1976 under the tutelage of Don Snell, a local drum teacher exploring rudiments in regards to drumset application. Upon leaving, he spent three years copying “licks” off his favorite albums and playing in local garage bands. Bruce decided to get serious about his career after attending a Carmine Appice clinic. It was then that he engaged in more intensive instruction under Bill Waldren at the famous “Drums Only” in Vancouver B.C. where he was introduced to jazz.

Always looking to learn, Bruce enrolled in a local college and immersed himself in their Bachelor of Music program, majoring in percussion and studying under industry professionals Graham Boyle ( Kd Lang, Jann Arden, VSO), Salvador Ferreras ( VSO, CBC Radio Orchestra, Chicago, Kd Lang, and Robbie Robertson), and Jack Duncan ( Juno award winning conguero and percussionist, Chicago and Spirit of the West).

During this time Bruce was actively involved in Vancouver’s vibrant club scene playing the “A” and “ B” room club circuit.

Since then he has been busy with various independent projects and commercial jingle sessions as well as video shoots and a thriving teaching practice. In 2005 he founded Musicmac Productions Inc. Bruce now resides in Abbotsford B.C. Canada with his wife Claudia and is expanding his horizons into music production.
